Commonwealth Games Delhi is just 66 days to go. And this tuesday, the completely remodelled Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, where the opening and closing ceremony of the games is about to be held, is been inaugurated by Indian Sports Minister MS Gill and Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit. This stadium was remodelled at the cost of Rs.960 crores. The stadium had delayed opening because of the delay in the construction of underground tunnel to the stadium.

This stadium will host the opening and closing ceremonies, lawn tennis,weightlifting and athletics events. The stadium has a capacity of 60,000. Kalmadi said the world will recognise India’s potential through Commonwealth Games. This stadium was constructed on 1982 for the Asian Games. The process of remodeling it for Commonwealth Games begin in January 2008. This stadium spans over a area of nearly 4 lakh sq.metres. It has internationally standard high strength steel erection. There is a tunnel of 150 m which connects the two ends of the stadium. It has integrated facilities for Training and Warmups. The competition lanes have Class-I certification. The entire building is earthquake resistant. All the stadiums are conducting the games now completed and inauguarted except the the one for weightlifting.
