Who is the 'Champ'?

The football fever has reached the climax. Today, at Johannesburg, Spain and Netherlands will battle for one ultimate pride. It’s already clear that we are going to crown a new champions tonight. Spain is the European Champions and Netherlands have not lost a single match in this tournament.

Comparing the past matches between these two teams, Spain has won in 4 occasions in their 8 head-to-head meetings. Netherlands have won in 3 matches, while the other one is a draw. Netherland has scored 12 goals against Spain, while Spain has scored 10 goals. It’s not an easy job to predict the winner in this finals (as we are not ‘Octopus’).

As far as World Cup experience is concerned, Spain has made 12 World Cup appearances, while Netherlands have only 8. But, these past statistics don’t matters. What the players exhibit today will only matter. I support Spain. But, the truth is I haven’t seen any matches of Spain in this World Cup. I support them because I like Spain’s Rafael Nadal (World No.1 Tennis Player). Also, Nadal will be on Johannesburg today to support his team.

Who will win the Golden Boot?

That’s the big question. It depends on David Villa of Spain and Sneijder of Netherlands. If both of these man, doesn’t score tonight, then Germany’s Thomas Muller will take the Golden Boot.. My favourite for this honour is also Muller.

Anything may happen today, but, it’s surely going to be history!…

The New "King of Grass"

Rafael Nadal, World No.1 Tennis Player, won his second Wimbledon Title tonight. This was Nadal’s Eighth Grand Slam title(5 French Open, 1 Australian Open, 2 Wimbledon Titles).  In the finals, he beat the Czech man, Tomas Berdych by 6-3, 7-5, 6-4. I thought that Tomas will be a tough competitor for Rafael Nadal. Tomas attracted me in the way he served to Federer and Djokovic. Nadal was little bit not so strong in serves. Nadal hits only few aces in his matches. This made me think that this final may go upto 5 sets. But, thanks to Nadal’s extra-ordinary forehand shots.

Nadal won the French Open title last month. This is Nadal’s second back-to-back straight win in Wimbledon and French Open(2008 and 2010). I was upset very much and even halted watching Tennis last year when he lost the French Open and pulled out from Wimbledon last year due to his knee injuries.

With this 8 Grand Slams he level with Agassi, Jimmy Connors, Fred Perry and Ken Rosewall. That too, he has done in a young age of 24.

Nadal has won 7 matches in 10 head-to-head matches he played with Tomas. And he has won the last 6 matches with him, all in straight sets. Nadal got the prize money of 1 million pounds. Tomas was awarded 5,00,000 pounds.

Nadal won this match without any pain. Nadal didn’t lost any service games in this match. Tomas doesn’t seem to trouble Nadal too much. Nadal looked on full throttle. Nadal looked weak in the opening matches. He even struggled losing two sets in the second and third round matches. He won in straight sets in the first and fourth round matches. He lost the first set in his quarter-final match with Soderling. But, he was unshaken in this year ‘s tounament after that. He beat Andy Murray in straight sets at semi-final. Nadal has proved that he can give his best in any surfaces.

Rafael Nadal in action in his Semi-final match against Murray

Rafael Nadal has now reached the finals of the Wimbledon Grand Slam Championships 2010. In the semi-final, he thrashed World No.4 Andy Murray 6-4,7-6,6-4. I thought initially that this match may go upto five sets. But, Nadal played really well today. He broke Andy Murray serve 3 times in the match. Andy broke Nadal’s serve one time in the third set. In a particular stage, Nadal was trailing 3-4 to Andy Murray, but he broke Andy’s serve two straight times to clinch the victory. I think Nadal is all set for another Grand Slam.. All the best for Nadal..

Tomas Berdych

In the final, Nadal will face a person who beat the defending champion Roger Federer in quarter-finals, ya.. it’s Tomas Berdych. Tomas Berdych beat Djokovic in straight sets 6-3, 7-6, 6-3 to enter the final. Tomas is also playing really great and he looks out in good form now. I think Nadal is ready for any challenges.. The final is going to be action packed ride..

Go Rafa… Grass will also be yours..!!

Bye Bye Federer! July 1, 2010

No Longer the 'Mr. Centre Court'

Roger Federer, who was once upon a time the ‘King of Grass’ has now been knocked out of the Wimbledon Championship yesterday. Some tennis fans thought that there is no one can stand a chance against Federer in Grass Court. But, Tomas Berdych, 24 years old man from Czech Republic has done massive job in this year’s Wimbledon. The 12th seeded man beat the Mr. Centre Court by 6-4, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4  just 2 hours 35 minutes.

From the start of the tournament itself, Fed-Express is not that mighty. He even struggled to win the first round match. Some what he managed to come to the quarter-finals. Federer is losing his form. He is becoming old.Federer was never taking about lucky before. Now that, he has started losing, he has started speaking of luck. Rafael Nadal, our favourite World Number 1, seems to be in a bit of trouble in his 2nd and 3rd round five set thriller matches. Many thought that Nadal will suffer in the hands of Soderling in his quarter-final match. But, Nadal seemed to be in trouble in the first set, but then came back strongly to beat Soderling by 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-4), 6-1. It’s an great entertaining match from both players.

But, Wimbledon is still going to be interesting this year. We have Berdych, Nadal, Murray, Djokovic as the final four for the Championship tie. My and yours favourite will be Rafael Nadal!.. “The New King of Grass”… Go Rafa!!!

Here is some special photos from yesterday’s quarter-final matches..

Hi everyone who are enjoying the Wimbledon Season! Though there  are three other Grand Slams, Wimbledon Lawn Tennis is considered as the most prestigious one. I am watching Wimbledon since 2008. I didn’t like to watch it last year since there is no Nadal!

The New King of Grass

I am a great fan of Rafael Nadal. In fact, I stopped seeing Tennis last year because there was only less Nadalism. Last year has been a bad year for my and your hero Nadal. But, this year he returned with a bang, clinching his fifth French Open Grand Slam Title and climbing to his own No. 1 spot.

In an typical Federer Grass Court Match as far as I have seen, Federer will enter the court, he will make his opponent run throughout the court, playing the game without any pressure winning in straight sets and then wave his hands to his fans to celebrate his victory.

But, every Fed-Express fan is upset is over the poor performance in the opening 2 rounds of the Wimbledon. We can’t forget the 5-set thriller first round match of Federer with Fallo. I have never seen Federer struggling like this to an normal experienced players. Round 2 was better for him yesterday. But, he was not able to withhand the service of his opponent, Bozoljac. He too was very good in service, and sometimes overshadowed Federer in services. Is this the end of Fed-Express?

We might have not forgottened what happened in Wimbledon Men’s Finals of 2008. Federer bursting into tears after losing to our King Nadal. That’s not a sign of an real champion. The bad thing about Federer is that he refuses to run rather than to leave the ball. He uses this tatics only. He doesn’t want to use his stamina. On the other hand, Nadal can run like an Bullet train. He doesn’t give up a shot, he tries atleast to do his best everytime he plays. Nadal’s matches will be very interesting. But, in an Federer Match one can see Federer domination with nothing but damn tatics!

Nadal was now playing well in grass courts also. He won the first round match at Wimbledon in Straight Sets sending the message to his rival breedwinner Federer. Today, he is going to play his second round match. It’s gonna be a piece of cake for the New King of Grass!
